I thought I would give you a quick bit of color about myself so you have some insight into who is the editor behind The Startup Forum.
For the last 15 -20 years, I’ve been putting out a reasonable amount of content on technology, business, and mindful insights; I think somewhere over a million words, either online or in print, and now finally, I’m sharing these insights newsletter style.
While I could not be more excited at giving all of you a million more pages, my ulterior motive is to build the best possible personal relationship with you so that I can be of value.
It all began when I was a young lad… (cue 70’s throwback music)
That’s me with my awesome little sister. She is six years younger than me, and I will still take out entire armies to protect her. And yes, everything in that room was pink. Literally. Everything. Including the carpet, trim, and all the furniture.
My room was next door. All brown and blue. Which was right next to a more green and white kitchen than in a Publix grocery store.
While these details are of no particular relevance to my bio, they have everything to do with the inspiration behind them: the colorful, whimsical, and rebellious life and energy that created it all, which has also largely influenced my life.
My mum.
My mum passed in 2018, but I learned one fundamental and foundational lesson from her that I live every waking day of my life…
Be yourself, not someone else.
Becoming a successful entrepreneur has not come easy. But, lessons have been learned by the thousands—huge wins and successes, and certainly my share of dumpster fires.
But one thing I have learned: I’m a creator. A builder. A doer. Not a maintainer.
That’s how I roll, and as such, it will always be the core focus of my writing.
When asked to explain my startup philosophy, I have told so many that I would rather be tasked with designing, building, and grandly opening the Burj Khalifa than leading an organization running all 5.67 million square feet, regardless of the paycheck.
My startup journey has been and always will be creating a vision, nose-down execution, and bringing Big Wins.
While you will never find me stoically enjoying a corporate lifestyle with a big paycheck, you will undoubtedly find me just as comfortable making it all and risking it all on my next adventure.
I’ve been an entrepreneur for the better part of twenty years, and I have traveled just about every road you can imagine in technology and startups. I go a bit more into my current life on my website, which you can visit here.
Writing is indeed one of my more loved passions, especially when I’m writing about what I love to do the most, and foremost, when I can share it with like-minded entrepreneurs, whether newbies or seasoned, to help you on your path to build your vision.
But for me, entrepreneurship is about how you choose to create living your life, your ideas to invent it, and what colors you wish to paint it.
As an entrepreneur, your canvas is the world.
How you build your ideas is entirely up to you. However, every founder should be their own artist and paint the colors of their vision by creating their product, business, or service for the world to consume.
And if you do it with the passion of Rembrandt, your colors can brighten the world.
In my heart, I want to see every founder win in their entrepreneurial journey.
This is why I hope to make every issue of this newsletter memorable and add value to your life.
